SuperAntiSpyware 5 Review

What It Does: SuperAntiSpyware uses the latest cutting-edge technology to keep your PC and personal data safe from dangerous malware threats.

Installation: The setup process of SuperAntiSpyware Professional took a few minutes to complete. Afterwards, once SuperAntispyware started up, the application hung for about 30 seconds while it fully initialized. This is the only time I experienced it, and it only occured once.

Details: When starting the installation of SuperAntiSpyware Professional, the user is given the option to install in a different language (the default is English), the option to provide your email address for announcements, and the option to check for various definitions and miscellaneous updates. Later on during the installation, the user will be prompted for a license key to fully activate SuperAntiSpyware Professional.

After the installation is complete, if the user opts to have SuperAntiSpyware Professional check for updates, the following screen below is displayed, detailing the steps taken to check for and install any relevant or required updates.

>Once the update and installation procedure is complete, the home screen is displayed. From here, the use can select a scanning method, manage quarantined items, view the results of previous scans, repair/restore specific Windows functions and access a wide variety of help topics from SuperAntiSpyware's site.

After selecting the "Preferences" button, a secondary screen is displayed that allows the user to decide how certain aspects of SuperAntiSpyware Professional should function. The "General And Startup" tab mostly covers startup and automatic scanning functions when either Windows or SuperAntiSpyware starts up.

The "Scanning Control" tab allows the user to choose various options of how they would like the SuperAntiSpyware to function during a scan. Some of these features include ignoring files that are larger than 4MB (not ignoring them could potentially slow down scantimes), scanning NTFS ADS (Alternate Data Stream) for hidden malware, and direct access functions, which makes it harder for certain pieces of malware to remain undetected.

The "Real-Time Protection" tab allows the user to enable and disable certain aspects of SuperAntiSpyware's realtime file monitor.

From the "Hi-Jack Protection" tab, the user can opt to have SuperAntiSpyware protect their browser and internet connection from being compromised by offending malware.

The update tab has options for automatic updating.

Within the Help tab, all relevant contact information for SuperAntiSpyware is shown.

After browsing the preferences, I decided to start with a complete scan. I opted to include two other drives, one of which contains an extensive malware archive. The other contains various media collections and a plethora of random files.

Below is a screenshot of SuperAntiSpyware's scan initializing.

SuperAntiSpyware seemed to detect pretty much everything in the archive that would qualify as a trojan, rootkit, adware or spyware.

Afterwards, I decided to rescan, but opting this time to select the C: drive. While SuperAntiSpyware detected several tracking cookies, the false positives generated were less than impressive. Every false positive was identified as being in the Koobface family. A quick check online seems to show that this is a very common issue at this point time. If you do scan with SuperAntiSpyware and come across this result, it would be in your best interest to double check with another malware scanner to make sure that you're not encountering a false positive.

This was the only issue I found with the client.

Summary: SuperAntiSpyware Professional is a security application designed to protect your system and data secure from the latest malware threats.

Pros: Overall, fairly quick scantimes and no real negative impact on system performance. There are also several useful options for restoring system functions disabled by malware. These easy to use tools can save you hours of time later on.

Cons: The detection rates of SuperAntiSpyware Professional are lower than what I would expect of a commercial malware scanner. The presence of several false positives on a wide array of applications is also something to be aware of. However, there were no false positives on system critical components. If you ran the scan and removed everythign you should not be affected by any negative impact.

Should I Purchase SuperAntiSpyware?

We do give a buy rating on this product. All in all it's a great malware detection tool. This will make a GREAT secondary scanner and line of protection for your computer. The price is right and I will personally be using this client going forward to run secondary scans on my computer to ensure I'm malware and virus free. I did also infect a computer with a few live recent samples of viruses and Superantispyware kicked in and removed those threats.
